Sharing my life as a marine biologist and my work with marine mammals. My goal has always been to use my passion for animals like sea otters and walruses to form a connection with people and inspire them to engage in ocean conservation. I've hosted several charity fundraisers for conservation groups that have raised thousands of dollars thanks to my dedicated followers who absolutely love animals, wildlife, and the environment.
Polar Bears Were Strapped With Cameras... This is What Happened
#polarbear #polarbears #kpassionate
Polar bears were strapped with cameras so scientists could see if the bears can adapt to longer summers and shrinking sea ice. The incredible POV footage offers a breathtaking look at life in the changing Arctic through the eyes of a polar bear.

Polar bears are classified as marine mammals because they spend most of their lives on the Arctic Ocean, depending on sea ice for their food and habitat. But not all sea ice is the same. The way ice moves, melts, and forms varies from region to region. The dynamics are so different that scientists from Polar Bears International have divided the polar bear’s range into four distinct ecoregions. The Archipelago, Convergent, Divergent, and Seasonal Sea Ice Ecoregions.
Spread across these 4 regions are 19 distinct polar bear populations. 2 of the polar bear populations are growing. 4 are likely stable. 3 have seen significant loss in the number of bears. The other 10 polar bear populations are a complete mystery. We know little to nothing about those bears.
Polar bears have perfectly evolved to prey on ringed seals and bearded seals, which polar bears catch from atop the sea ice. Seals will cut 10 to 15 breathing holes in the ice and they’ll keep these holes open all winter long. Every 5-15 minutes, seals will surface to breathe at one of the holes or at air pockets trapped under the ice. Polar bears can smell a seal's breathing hole from more than half a mile away. When a seal surfaces… the polar bear strikes.
Polar bear heads are longer and more slender than other bears so they can fit into these holes. Even polar bear teeth are specialized for seals. Polar bears have a larger gap between their sharp, front canines and back molars. This is known as a diastema and it acts like a hook for a polar bear to snag a seal. Polar bear skulls have an elongated crest - the longest of any bear - giving polar bears the strength to pull a seal out of the water.
Healthy polar bears only eat the seal blubber, leaving the carcass for scavengers such as ravens and arctic foxes. One polar bear can eat 45 kg (or 100 lbs) of seal blubber in a single sitting, providing about a week’s worth of energy.
In 1980, there were 1,100 polar bears in the Seasonal Sea Ice Ecoregion. As of 2022 the population was just over 600 polar bears.

Such beautiful creatures! The way the cubs follow their mother around and snuggle up to them to rest is just beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite animals 🐻❄️
She seems to not be that much of a dog expert. And if a human show in body Language in humans, if u talk and really do repetition they will understand. To not think these animals actually could have emotions. Yes they may not understand most word but over time they do understand. I can tell with my dogs. I've spent alot of time and can see for myself
send U.S navy and get ridd of them
Happy❤
Those poor stupid killer whales don't know they need to be vaccinated and pronto
It's scary, weird, and adorable all wrapped into one 😂❤
I'm against anything a "tribal nation" wants. This is nothing to be celebrated...
He's smart enough to know the word toung

Wrong, the most abundant mamal species on the planet is bats, then rodents, then humans. Fascinating video. Thank you. P.s. Why can't they make Special raps for salmon in the damps?

Super
How is an ocean lady gonna try and tell me about a land animal..? 🤨 maybe I need to go back to school but that math ain’t mathin 🫠
I’m an animal behavior expert who works with marine mammals. If you are suggesting dolphins are less capable of language than dogs then I do strongly recommend going back to school. I am certain there is zero chance you know more about this than me.
how do you feed a giant pod pod of orcas on almost exclusively shark livers? thats thousands if not tens of thousands sharks a day
Sharks have enormous livers. They make up about a third of a shark's body. Their livers are also very rich in a nutritious oil called squalene. So it's more efficient to just eat the livers rather than expend energy trying to digest cartilage and other parts of the shark that aren't as nutrient dense. There are also only a few hundred offshore killer whales.
Thinking that dogs can’t discern between “WALK” , “TALK” & “CHALK” just sounds like extremely lazy Science.
There have been studies using EEGs and MRIs to measure brain activity in dogs when they hear human words. These studies found that dogs do not have the ability to distinguish similar sounding words AND that almost 50% of what they respond to when they hear a human speak is their emotion and tone of voice. What is lazy is commenting without taking the time to read the data. Which I've posted below for your convenience. No. Especially since anyone who takes a close look at these videos can easily see that they are staged and/or outright fake. As you can plainly see at the 3 minute mark of the below video. [1] ua-cam.com/video/jObcXvhZu_Q/v-deo.html

The name Killer Whale comes from the Basque fisherman of centuries ago who went far for Cod. The name entered Spanish as Mataballenas, which when directly translated into English becomes Killer Whale; however, the real translation from Spanish to English is better written as WHALE KILLER. That’s the real name given to the Orca. This is important because for centuries their behavior was right there in their original name. To the Basque, whales were the leviathans that were hunted by men with harpoons. The Mataballenas were a different creature that preyed on whales, not a whale that killed.
That’s adorable
I’m from Alabama and the alligators we have here along with the water moccasins make you somewhat apprehensive of approaching riverbanks and lakes you just don’t know what’s lurking out there.
Unstoppable, yeah oh theres No way to stop them, it's not like humans hunt them with sticks in canoes
Yeah they don’t 😂
There's another form of bias inherent in pets-communicating-using-buttons videos: selection bias. There's little incentive to post videos of animals using the buttons nonsensically.
Absolutely
Don’t remove the dams build the salmon a fish ladder that can redirect the fish past them??🤷♂️
This new species of Orca; was it first spotted not far from Fukushima?
“Other than humans orcas are the most widespread mammals on earth” There are many very cool and accurate superlatives about Orcas. This statement is clearly incorrect and not needed. Can be stated in other ways. Sorry. Bad “facts” taint everything else no matter how interesting
I was quoting the National Wildlife Federation, the Center for Whale Research, and the Encyclopedia of Marine Mammals (Second Edition). Widespread refers to distribution, meaning their natural geographic range, not population FYI. [1] www.nwf.org/Educational-Resources/Wildlife-Guide/Mammals/Orca [2] www.whaleresearch.com/facts [3] www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/B9780123735539001504
50.000 is not that many.
gift myself myselfs breeding perfect Goddess's yes love
eat kelp
no ear studs.
Even if one watches "all" the videos, there is some bias inherent in the fact that the videos do not show all interactions with the buttons. There's little incentive to post videos of pets pressing the buttons in nonsensical ways. If I had a young enough pet, I might consider trying it for amusement, but I'd probably stick to nouns for tangible objects. Setting aside whether or not a pet can understand the concept of "where" -- for example -- I have no idea how I'd teach it that a specific sound represents that concept!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Are you single?
No 😂
How can you not want to vote for Jo Biden when he helps conservation like this. This is so important. Do you really want to vote for Donald Trump wants to cancel all green policy’s if it makes him money .He’s a monster and devil incarnate.
Honestly this is one of the lowest reasons on the list for why I don’t vote for Trump but yes lol. I agree
It's not a new species. Stop the cap
They are 100% new species. Here is a link to the research paper as well as an article explaining it in plain, easy to read English. [1] royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsos.231368 [2] www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/there-should-be-two-new-species-of-killer-whale-new-study-says-180984056/
How did they misspell reshaping...
KP's video editor here. I'm dyslexic and often make spelling mistakes. We do our best to catch typos but sometimes they slip through. Thankfully, only a handful of people have noticed and it hasn't hurt viewership. Thanks for commenting.
😂Les animaux.. Orr, tu demandes du poisson avant qu'on ne te soignes ? Quel chantage mal placé ! 😂😂
Wat dachten jullie van de windmolens in zee? Ik zou ook gek worden..
"speaking" in broken language, is still communicating in that language. A 2 year old will speak exactly like this because they lack the sophistication of complex language. A 2 year old would say "mommy, eat?" When asking for food. Or say "puppy play" when asking to go play with the puppies. Dogs have been shown to have a similar intelligence level to a 2-3 yo, with some working breeds to be that of a 5 yo. They also very much do recognize names. I can tell my dog to go to .... and they will go to that person. When putting them in kennels, i can say go with .... and they will get in with that dog (they get paired randomly).
Except that's not what's happening in these videos. I recently revisited this topic and found many of them to be staged or outright faked, as you can plainly see at the 3 minute mark of the video below. [1] ua-cam.com/video/jObcXvhZu_Q/v-deo.html
More Killer Whales than Rats, doubt it!

What threat are they experiencing and where can we find this research?
They face many threats, including noise pollution and ship strikes, but the biggest and most immediate is the lack of food. Here is a link to the latest research that I talked about in the video. [1] www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7928517/ And here is a link to the NOAA's page on the threats these animals face. @@KPassionate thanks for the links, interesting read. I was recently looking at the effects of gelbstoff on sonar sensors which in many areas had been increasing, though this was recorded in shallow water, it's quite worrying how quickly aquatic life changes.
What kind of biologist gives a trigger warning 😒
The kind that wants to reach as broad of an audience as possible without getting demonetized. Do you get mad when HBO says "viewer discretion advised?" You do realize that disclaimers are often required?
This is dumb, get rid of dams to protect whales. You know how important electricity is?
You know that we tear down dams all the time? The US breached 86 dams in 2017, Trump's first year in office. In 2023, the US breached 80 dams while the EU removed a record 500 dams and other river blockages. [1] www.americanrivers.org/2024/02/saying-adios-to-80-dams-in-2023/ [2] www.americanrivers.org/2018/02/dam-good-year-for-dam-removal-in-2017/ [3] europe.wetlands.org/news/record-year-for-dam-removals-in-europe-in-2023/
@@KPassionate and now we have States like California that have energy crisis. Sometimes you have to find out what species is worth defending, if Orcas don’t adapt their diet then they can choose how is going to be. As majestic as they are, I gain nothing to protect them and loose way more by helping you pass bills to make my cost of living higher. So there it is.
These dams were not built for hydroelectric power. These dams were built so barges could reach Lewiston, Idaho and allow wheat to be shipped down the river. The small amount of energy they do produce is a bonus. The Lower Snake River Dams produce just a fraction of the energy that feeds the PNW power grid. [1] www.spokesman.com/stories/2021/mar/07/dam-power-snake-river-dams-are-not-big-power-produ/ [2] www.columbiariverkeeper.org/our-work/saving-salmon/snake-river-dams So there it is indeed.
@@KPassionate I remember the times when engineers, doctors, lawyers went to school to make human civilization a better place. Your arguments are that we should help with the movement that improves whales life experience, this has no indication to put whales at risk of extinction . Even if those dams produce only 20 percent of the energy required (is over 50% right now)to live is way more energy than the one created without them besides, those dams are paid for already, improving them is a way better option. Marine biologists, please tell me is a career that has something to do with improving civilization, human civilization, because alll the marine biologist I see employed by sea world are a joke of ethical behaviors, like for example: capturing animals to expose them to humans in order to create conscience about how important is to not keep them captive. I appreciate animals in the wild, animals that hunt to live and live with the risk of being hunted.
I stumbled into this video because of the Portuguese Orcas. I stayed for the fascinating discussion of diverse Orca populations. Great job.
he is sucking the fish in :) so faszinating
no ting biden tuches i will suport even if its the bestthing ever.......
What if he proposed better education to improve English speaking/spelling skills?
